Too often we think the work of fighting oppression is just intellectual. The real work is personal, emotional, spiritual, and communal.- Bettina Love, We Want to Do More Than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom
El griot & Areito Project’s Approach
Offer medicine to the educator. Our adult learning approach assumes that everyone in the room has unlearning and healing to do, including us! Our students benefit from educators who are able to get their healing on, in community.
Center stories. We read, witness and share stories upon stories. Whether its fiction, non-fiction, art or sharing our truths in a talking circle, stories, especially the untold ones, deepen our connections to each other.
Engage collectively and intergenerationally. When we dream, learn and build together, the potential for liberatory education movement- making is strong. This is especially true when we gather intergenerationally.
